Well that was unexpected!

Just like that, all our lives have been turned upside down and here we are… in self-isolation…

All I can say is thank goodness we’re living in 2020, smack bang in the middle of everything digital!

I can’t imagine how single people coped in 1918 when the Spanish Flu hit… no Facetime, no email, no online dating…NO WI-FI?!

Not only does it sound horrific, it sounds really lonely, right? Well, the good news is that it’s not 1918 and we can only hope the NBN can keep up through the next few months because this isn’t doomsday Single’s!

Yes, it’s a horrible virus and the DateMyFriend Team and I hope you’re all keeping safe and well, but COVID-19 doesn’t mean your love life is off the cards… it just means you have to channel your creative side!

Not creative you say? That’s O.K, I’ve already thought this through…

COVID-19 is changing the face of ALL our social interactions, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun! It just means it’s time to make your own fun!

Here are DateMyFriend’s top tips for “C-ating” – COVID-Dating…?!

First and foremost, beware the Scammer. Unfortunately, during times of crisis, scammers will be the first out of the gates in an effort to make a few bucks out of people’s misfortunes and this is certainly the case during what can only be described as a world crisis. We’ve already seen the “fake news” and the fake cures come out, (yes, someone was trying to sell toothpaste containing silver as a cure). So please, be aware, stay alert, and if you get a feeling something isn’t right, it means it usually isn’t.

Here’s the part where we get creative.

There’s no reason why you can’t keep dating during this time and there’s no reason to let that person you may have already made a connection with slip away into quarantine forever. Use the digital age to your advantage and get personal with any one of the bazillion video chat options we have at our disposal! You cannot get COVID from kissing the screen.

You could try a Skype date where you set the mood with some candles, and a nice glass of red. One thing’s for sure, there won’t be a shortage of things to chat about with everything that’s going on in the world right now.

If you both enjoy staying fit, why not organise a booty camp, I mean boot camp! Set up your device and exercise together! Whilst this could turn competitive, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it could be a great insight into some of the other person’s personality traits.

Use the digital age to your advantage and get personal with video chat. One thing we do know is that you can’t t get COVID from kissing the screen, just make sure you sanitise it first!

Which brings us to the question on everyone’s lips (and perhaps some other body parts – but we won’t go there – ok we just went there, but someone has to!). The main message here is that these are unprecedented times, and this is one time where it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry.

We know that the COVID virus is passed on via close physical contact. So, unless you can find a way to stay sexually active whilst observing your State’s social-distancing rules we’d say this is a no-no for now. IF you do find a work around though, please let us know immediately!

In all seriousness, we think this is a good a time as any to connect with people in general. Suddenly, life has slowed right down which means there’s this unexpected abundance of free time.

Write a love letter (or email), learn how to flirt and imagine connecting with that special someone on an emotional level. It is possible to fall in love without physical contact. Then, when this whole situation is over, just imagine meeting your true love for the first time.

If there was ever a time to find true love. It’s now.
